Irish wisdom: presidential election—why fret?!

October 29, 2008

This is an e-mail from Ireland to all of our Irish brethren living in the States. A point to ponder despite your political affiliation….

Over here in Ireland we can’t figure out why you people are fretting about who to elect for your president there in the United States.

For a while you had a pants wearing female lawyer who was married to another lawyer who can’t keep his pants on.

But she lost a long, heated and very expensive primary against a lawyer who is married to yet another lawyer who doesn’t like the country she thinks her husband ought to run and who goes to anti-American church and hates your military.

Now on the other side you have a war hero whose last name starts with ‘Mc’ and who is married to a good looking, rich younger woman who owns a beer distributorship.

What in God’s name is the matter we’ ye lads over there in the colonies?

Obama parties with Khalidi, Ayers: lift PLO, bash Israel

October 29, 2008

Obama, Ayers, and PLO supporters toast Edward Said’s successor, but the press doesn’t think it’s quite as newsworthy as Sarah Palin’s wardrobe.

By Andrew C. McCarthy

Let’s try a thought experiment. Say John McCain attended a party at which known racists and terror mongers were in attendance. Say testimonials were given, including a glowing one by McCain for the benefit of the guest of honor … who happened to be a top apologist for terrorists. Say McCain not only gave a speech but stood by, in tacit approval and solidarity, while other racists and terror mongers gave speeches that reeked of hatred for an American ally and rationalizations of terror attacks.

Now let’s say the Los Angeles Times obtained a videotape of the party.

Question: Is there any chance — any chance — the Times would not release the tape and publish front-page story after story about the gory details, with the usual accompanying chorus of sanctimony from the oped commentariat? Is there any chance, if the Times was the least bit reluctant about publishing (remember, we’re pretending here), that the rest of the mainstream media (y’know, the guys who drove Trent Lott out of his leadership position over a birthday-party toast) would not be screaming for the release of the tape?

Do we really have to ask?

So now, let’s leave thought experiments and return to reality: Why is the Los Angeles Times sitting on a videotape of the 2003 farewell bash in Chicago at which Barack Obama lavished praise on the guest of honor, Rashid Khalidi — former mouthpiece for master terrorist Yasser Arafat?

At the time Khalidi, a PLO adviser turned University of Chicago professor, was headed east to Columbia. There he would take over the University’s Middle East-studies program (which he has since maintained as a bubbling cauldron of anti-Semitism) and assume the professorship endowed in honor of Edward Sayyid, another notorious terror apologist.

The party featured encomiums by many of Khalidi’s allies, colleagues, and friends, including Barack Obama, then an Illinois state senator, and Bill Ayers, the terrorist turned education professor. It was sponsored by the Arab American Action Network (AAAN), which had been founded by Khalidi and his wife, Mona, formerly a top English translator for Arafat’s press agency.

Is there just a teeny-weenie chance that this was an evening of Israel-bashing Obama would find very difficult to explain? Could it be that the Times, a pillar of the Obamedia, is covering for its guy?

Bill Maher protest update

October 29, 2008

UPDATE:

Have received letters back from Time Warner and FCC saying they are looking into this matter.   Meanwhile, this You Tube video has been removed from the site with this disclaimer in its place:

“This video has been removed due to terms of use violation.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-gid1D7gF8

The video showed Maher on CNN telling Blitzer the entire Time Warner media empire was working to get the brother elected.  He was obviously referencing Obama, and Blitzer was obviously taken by surprise and very uncomfortable, rapidly changing the subject.  This is referenced at the end of this letter (below), and it is apparent Time Warner intervened to have the video removed.

President & CEO Jeffrey L. Bewkes

Time Warner Board of Directors

c/o Office of the Corporate Secretary

Time Warner Inc.

One Time Warner Center

New York, NY 10019

Dear Mr. Bewkes & Time Warner Board of Directors:

I have a suggestion.   The next time you have a Board meeting, wheel in a big screen TV and roll the following clips for everybody.

I remember a time when goodness, fair play and decency were values honored by most Americans, and by your corporation.

Most Americans still honor these values, but you apparently do not.

By sponsoring Bill Maher on HBO, you demonstrate a willingness to promote the antithesis of goodness, fair play and decency.

Bill Maher calls the Pope a Nazi and a child molester.  His subsequent “apology” does not absolve him, or you.

(“child f**cking . . .)

Bill Maher “wishes for the demise” of the Catholic Church, and indeed, the demise of all Christian churches.

(campaign to destroy religion)

Bill Maher says Sarah Palin is a MILF: “A Mother I’d Like to F**k.”  Late in the clip he makes fun of Palin’s infant son Trig, the child with Down’s Syndrome.

(Maher’s remark, mere hours after McCain announced Palin his running mate)

Here your star on HBO abuses Palin’s daughters and says later: “Pigs are smart (unlike Sarah Palin), they don’t believe in creationism.

“At least when Obama got a post convention bump it wasn’t leaking amniotic fluid.”  Another example of Mr. Maher committing child abuse.

Mr. Bewkes, your web letter addressing citizenship overview states:  “Time Warner’s commitment to corporate social responsibility is one of many ways we achieve long-term growth.”

In view of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” I think we have reason to question your commitment to social responsibility.

As to your long-term growth objectives, we will be calling on the 100 million people of faith in this country to boycott every product and service brought to market by Time Warner.  In due time you will likely be hearing from your shareholders, in ‘real time.’  We will call on people to boycott your corporation every single day until the day you cancel “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Oh, and by the way,   Mr. Maher informs us your entire media empire is working to get Mr. Obama elected.    And here we thought you were non-partisan.  Maher says to Wolf:  “I like to think of you (CNN) as the brother network, since we are supporting the Brother for President.”  Wolf tries to cover, but the cat is out of the bag!

BHO dangerous on economy, immigration?

October 29, 2008

Remember the good old days, just recently, when Barack Obama was up front about his tax and spend proposals?

http://editorials.americandaughter.info/?p=297

July 24th, 2008

by Allan Erickson

Obama wants to increase capital gains and income taxes and social security taxes and payroll taxes and pass a windfall profits tax on oil companies as Carter did in the 70s (which by the way stifled exploration and increased prices).

Obama proposes billions of dollars in increased government spending to create jobs (government creating productive jobs?) and to subsidize programs for the poor, including health care for illegal aliens.

He says all this will be funded by pulling our troops out of Iraq, cutting corporate tax breaks, and raising taxes on “the rich.” Obama says we need to make the wealthy pay more (despite the fact they carry the lion’s share of the burden even under the Bush tax cuts.)

We know from a proven track record that tax cuts in the JFK, Reagan and Bush administrations stimulated the economy and increased federal revenue. Proven facts.

Obama wants to do the opposite: tax the productive elements of society, hand out entitlements that are duplicative, all of which means less government income, and more government spending, and a downturn in the economy, translating into an acceleration of the timeline to bankruptcy while we allow Al Qaeda to regain ground in Iraq and aggravate the illegal immigration problem by subsidizing illegal activity.

Brilliant.

On the spending side, forty-five percent of the federal budget is devoted to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

On the income side: “Individual income taxes and payroll taxes now account for nearly 80 percent of federal revenue and corporate income tax revenue makes up about two-thirds of the rest (13 percent of the overall). Excise taxes, estate and gift taxes, customs duties, and miscellaneous receipts bring in just 7 percent of federal revenue.” (Source.)

Who pays the most income tax?

According to various websites compiling statistics, the top income earners in America pay most of the income tax. This 2007 article sums it up:

Congress’ Joint Economic Committee disclosed that the richer half of the
American population pays nearly 97 percent of income taxes. Most of that, 54
percent, is paid by those in the top 5 percent, Investor’s Business Daily
(IBD) disclosed.

And the richest of the rich – just the top 1 percent – pay a hefty 34
percent of all personal income taxes collected by the federal government.

Meanwhile, about 14 million lower-income Americans have been removed from
the income tax rolls since 2000 due to the earned income tax credit and the
per-child tax credit, IBD reports.

It would appear the tax burden has already been shifted to the “rich” but let’s not let facts cloud our judgment or interfere with the mantra “tax cuts for the rich!”

And who pays payroll tax?

Employers of course.

Obama would have us believe it is a good thing to tax the productive people and organizations so they become less productive, and fund the unproductive sector which neither helps them nor improves society or economic health. Talk about a cost/benefit analysis! Where’s the benefit? Only government benefits. Everyone else loses.

Obama’s ideas seem to distill down to this: if it moves, tax it, if it complains, fund it, if America’s volunteer force appears to be winning, surrender, and if it’s an illegal alien, treat him better than a legal citizen.

This is change? This is hope? This is unity?

Even an 8th grader should be able to see the Obama approach is a prescription for disaster a la Jimmy Carter. Dangerous? Oh yes, on numerous fronts, including the war on terror.
