It appears we have another huge disconnect between what is reported on CNN and what is actually happening on the ground. If it is true the Supreme Court ordered the military to arrest Zelaya because he was working to topple the government, then he was the one orchestrating a coup, breaking Honduran law, and preparing to use violence. If all that is true, then the constitutional government authorities pre-empted him legally, and in so doing, they pre-empted another Marxist takeover planning to use illegal methods akin to those used by Chavez, Castro and Ortega. I thought we stood for democracy and the rule of law. Why do we continue to play patty cake with thugs?

While I sympathize with the upsurpers, I have to say one thing:

Military coups were on their way out in the 80's. Using violence only created more instability in the Honduras than necessary.

I know this because my wife has familiy there, and they are all very upset that they resorted to a military coup instead of a legal and proper way to get rid of Zaleya. It sparked the unrest that still prevades Honduras' population, and now there's a lot of problems in the streets.

What is even more upsetting to them is that the rich fatcats who supported Zaleya didn't want to get their hands dirty, so they used the military to do it for them. A lot of Hondurans think that this is a disingenuous move and that the government is just going to continue to trample on the rights of the poor with the military whenever they feel wronged.
