Former Sen. Tom Daschle, President Obama’s nominee for Health and Human Services, is in hot water for tax foulups and recently paid $140,000 in back taxes and interest. Some members of the Senate Finance Committee are making light of the problem, but Daschle should be reminded of what he said in 1998:
“Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter. ”

Geitner: failed to pay taxes

Rangel: failed to pay taxes

Richardson: being investigated for financial irregularities as state official, campaign contributions, construction contracts

Dodd: special treatment from Countrywide, as chair of Senate banking committee

Frank: Fannie Mae contributions, failed to regulate

Killefer:  tax problems, was nominated to serve as waste watchdog, chief performance officer.
