Thought Police Vote in Congress Soon

Rep. Forbes on Hate Crimes Legislation
“The law in general and criminal law in particular is properly concerned with actions. When the law attempts to first identify and then punish certain thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, the law becomes a force for tyranny.”

“Under hate crimes laws, our personal expressions, the books we read, and the friends we have would all become potential evidence against us. The search for such evidence would allow law enforcement to investigate and to interpret forms of expression and association that had previously enjoyed protection under the First Amendment. Even if there is no prosecution, such investigations can have a chilling effect on free speech. The government does not have to jail or fine citizens to intimidate them from speaking their minds. Under state hate crimes laws and ‘human rights commissions,’ it’s already happening.”

Activism opportunity from NewsMax:

The pro-homosexual, anti-faith bill, sponsored by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and pushed hard by the Obama Administration, was until recently labeled S. 909 “Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act.” But it faced such strong resistance by conservatives (including threat of filibuster or faith-protecting amendments by pro-faith Senator Jim DeMint, R-SC), so instead Democrats had announced they would try to hide the bill as an amendment to another “must-move” bill, denying committee hearings, and completely side-stepping the Republicans right to debate and amend.

In a surprise turnaround, and due to pressure from pro-faith conservatives, the Democrats appear to be abandoning their plans to hide the “Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act,” (which is better known to conservatives as the “Pedophile Protection Act,”) in an amendment to another bill, and will instead hold hearings this Thursday to consider S. 909 as a stand-alone bill, giving us a few more days to act.
