Attending our local town hall meeting Monday night in McMinnville confirmed what we’ve long known: politicians just don’t get it. What is it about the water in D.C.? Is it spiked with arrogance and selfishness?
Of course the President’s supporters on healthcare ‘reform’ tried to stack the meeting, and they shouted down those of us who wanted to ask follow up questions. That was expected. But isn’t dissent patriotic? It was also expected our Congressman would display his ability to obfuscate. Imagine telling us he embraces both single payer and a system preserving private insurance!
The real issue has less to do with healthcare, however, and much to do with freedom and the financial mess. Simply put, people are outraged that this government is ruining us financially, and encroaching on our freedom, step by step. Obama has stated for years his goal is universal healthcare, single payer, no private involvement whatsoever, and that means complete government control, so don’t let them pull the wool.
As to the larger issue, thanks to politicians in Washington, we are bankrupt. Former Comptroller David Walker, a Democrat, said two years ago federal spending for Medicare, Social Security and the prescription drug program leaves us in debt (unfunded liabilities) about $50-65 TRILLION looking 30-50 years out.
He said by then we won’t even be able to make interest payments on the debt. We are broke. Every citizen now owes $192,000.00.
What sense does it make, in this situation, adding another enormous entitlement program? Debt is our worst enemy. What kind of leadership encourages more of it?
Insanely, you politicians continue your orgy of spending, increasing the debt load far beyond what we can carry. You have added trillions to the load in a few months. And now you want us to nod and grin as you add trillions more in this power mad plan to take over healthcare.
We are broke. The only way to right the ship: cut spending and increase revenue by expanding free market opportunities. We can count on you politicians to continue raising taxes to fund your orgy. And we can count on you to ignore the call to cut spending. Why are you destroying free markets?
You wonder why people across the country, from the Tea Parties to the Town Halls, are outraged?! We can see very plainly our freedom is being taken away by an ever-growing, all powerful central government.
Not only have you squandered our resources and buried our grandchildren in horrendous debt, you have destroyed the greatest economy on earth. Federal spending and federal interference in the private sector are to blame. The Founders warned us about this. Yet you continue to spend money we don’t have and you continue grabbing power the Constitution does not grant, exercising more and more authority, irresponsibly.
From Carter’s community redevelopment program right through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, you promoted government takeover of the housing and mortgage industries, forcing affirmative action loans, destroying the American dream, in large part the cause of this recession.
Then you turned around and plundered the treasury, making backroom deals with industry, rewarding appointees with millions in bonuses so they would keep the ball rolling, and giving yourselves raises and incomparable benefits.
To cover your tracks you blame each other, accusing one another of influence pedaling and corruption, all the while participating in it.
For most of us, 2010 and 2012 cannot come soon enough.
It is well past time we remove ‘professional’ politicians from office, replacing you with patriots who know how to balance a check book.
At least common folk have common sense.
PS: Here is the question I asked Congressman Wu, and on the video link below, his answer, and then the shout down preventing me from asking a follow up—
THE CONSTITUTION DOES NOT GIVE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THE POWER TO TAKE OVER THE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, WHICH IS WHAT HR 3200 WILL DO, A BILL YOU VOTED FOR OUT OF COMMITTEE. GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT IN THAT AREA—IF ANY—IS RESERVED FOR THE SEVERAL STATES AS DETERMINED BY THE PEOPLE, ACCORDING TO THE 10TH AMENDMENT. WITH REGARD TO HEALTHCARE REFORM, WHY IS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT VIOLATING THE CONSTITUTION AND TRAMPLING ON STATES’ RIGHTS?
