Did you know officers with the Los Angeles Police Department cannot inquire about a suspect’s immigration status? Might offend somebody at the ACLU, at the DNC or in Mexico City.
If the Obama administration gets its way, no law enforcement will be able to take a stand against illegal immigration: open borders by default.
Lots of potential voters coming across the border, one imagines.
Now we have the Obama administration investigating and persecuting America’s Sheriff in Arizona, by most accounts a very successful and popular old-school sheriff. (At least Holder is consistent: let the bad guys go and put the screws to law enforcment and the CIA.)
It is nigh on impossible to recollect a President more out of touch with the people he swore an oath to serve. It is as if he could care less his policies routinely contradict the will and desire of the majority.
The latest example involves persecution of law enforcement officials simply doing their jobs in a particular area of enforcement the majority of our people are deeply concerned about: illegal immigration.
Let us remember not long ago we had the Obama-caused fiasco in Cambridge involving personal friend Professor Gates and his toddler moment fingering as racist a cop trying to protect the good professor’s property. Acting “stupidly” according to the President, the cop was targeted for ridicule, except, when the truth was known, it became Miller time.
Now, a sheriff in Arizona who has the audacity to enforce immigration law has been hammered into submission (almost) by the White House. Details here. The message is clear: Obama thinks the sheriff is a racist.
Sheriff Arpaio was first elected in 1993 and has been re-elected by healthy margins ever since. The people he serves, the people he is directly accountable to, tend to approve the job he is doing.
But apparently Mr. Obama is angry with Sheriff Arpaio for telling Janet Napolitano (director of DHS) where to get off when she tried to tell the sheriff what to do, or not.
And apparently Mr. Obama thinks Arpaio’s efforts to arrest illegal aliens is an exercise in racial profiling. Reportedly the President is handcuffing Arpaio because of complaints.
Now that is rich.
Criminalize law enforcement when criminals complain about laws being enforced. (Badges? Badges! We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!)
The President is making public servants out to be public enemies. Hey! It’s rehab. Make jailers out of suspects!
Imagine a border state sheriff being concerned about illegal immigration! Good lord I bet Arpaio is concerned about Mexican drug cartels too, but, hey, that would be racial profiling as well, wouldn’t it?!
Note this detail from The Guardian story: “Under a two-year-old agreement with the federal department of homeland security (Napolitano), Arpaio and his deputies had been authorised to enforce federal immigration law by arresting suspected illegal immigrants in the field and by checking the immigration status of people arrested on other offences.”
So the feds authorized Arpaio and trained his deputies to arrest illegals, and they are doing that according to the fed’s rules, but now, the fed is going to investigate Arpaio for doing what they wanted him to do, and they are telling him to stop, it was all a mistake.
According to The Guardian story: “More than 60 law enforcement agencies across the country have signed onto the same programme under which local officers are effectively deputised to enforce immigration law. But critics of the programme say it wastes police resources needed to fight street crime, promotes racial profiling of Hispanics, targets peaceful workers, breaks up families and breeds distrust of police among immigrants, who become afraid to report crime for fear they will be asked for immigration papers.”
It isn’t enough we ask law enforcement officers to risk their lives everyday. Now, they also have to do the impossible: enforce the law without offending anyone.
Of course the Left is jumping all over this, calling Arpaio a racist and a thug who targets Hispanics and mistreats people in his custody. The truth is Arpaio is a good and decent human being doing his job under impossible conditions now made worse by President Obama. Arapio vows to continue enforcing immigration law under Arizona state authority, so this is likely going to push the state’s rights issue further, as it should.
Any guess how Sotomayor will come down should this get to the SCOTUS? (La Raza! Unite!)
The back story is Arpaio and Napolitano have butted heads for years. Slate reports Napolitano’s “embarrassing” behavior while governor of Arizona. She is criticized for looking the other way while Arpaio allegedly mistreated inmates and suspects, several deaths reportedly resulting in multi-million dollar settlements.
For the sake of perspective, assuming the Leftist advocacy press is remotely accurate about incidents of inmate death, it should be pointed out that jails and prisons are dangerous places, and try as they might to manage the jungle, cops can never prevent all instances of violence or accidental death. Common sense will also tell you Arpaio would not be in office had he perpetrated crimes as sheriff during the last 16 years, and Napolitano certainly would not have left him on duty had there been sufficient cause for dismissal.
The truth is Arpaio is an effective law enforcement official serving a public approving his job performance, but his activities oppose and bring attention to the limp-wristed and politically correct approach of this administration, activities which reveal the lunacy of the politically-correct Left, and so he must be tamped down or disposed of, so that, Napolitano and Obama can save face.
This is not about appropriate law enforcement. As with all things Obama, it is about politics and power.
Rather than do anything at all about illegal immigration, Janet and Barry insist on persecuting one of the only officials actually enforcing immigration law on the border.
What was the oath they swore, something about protecting and defending the Constitution?
But we should give Janet and Barry the benefit of the doubt. After all, they have so much on their plates what with recruiting the Boy Scouts to help with homeland security, and creating a civilian security force as powerful as the U.S. military, who has time to think about terrorists cooperating with coyotes and cartels and Americans on the border being killed and robbed every day?
More important to give Holder a call to make sure Panthers continue threatening voters at the polls.
More important to bury an Arizona sheriff up to his badge in bad guys, letting the bad guys run the show.
And heaven forbid Napolitano should pay special attention to Muslim men ages 18-45.
We wouldn’t want to offend anyone.
Illegal aliens a crime problem? You bet. Detail here.
Moving to Mexico (thx George!)
Dear Mr. President, Senate and House of Representatives:
I’m planning to move my family and extended family (18-20 mouths) into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me.
We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements.
We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here.
So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Calderon, that I’m on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. All Mexico government forms need to also be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico, but, I don’t plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won’t make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put U S. flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.
13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say a critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place o n their economy. I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who come to the U.S. from Mexico.
I am sure that President Calderon won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.
Thank you so much for your kind help,
US Citizen & Taxpayer
(Author unknown, but brilliant.)
