Obama’s crony capitalism: short for creeping socialism

Greenspan today: With both housing starts and auto sales “dead in the water,” he said he thought it would be difficult to make the case that the economy is poised for a strong rebound.

If you wanna do business, learn to play ball.

If you want to make substantially more, get a government job.

That is correct Rachel.  Duh.  Duh.

Oh, but this is only a mistake, a happenstance.  It’s not the policy of this administration.

Favoritism and use of public funds to leverage political outcomes is the furthest thing from the President’s mind.  He promised us a year ago earmarks and corruption were his first concern.

Excerpt:  Democrats are feeling stimulated these days.  In a recent study, Jerry Brito and Veronique de Rugy of the Mercatus Center tracked stimulus spending in all 435 congressional districts plus the District of Columbia.  They found that the amount of stimulus money received by a district was influenced by its partisan representation, rather than economic need. Districts with a Democratic congressman received almost twice as many dollars as those with Republican representation, whereas there was no relationship between a district’s unemployment level and the amount of stimulus money it received.

But that’s only one study.  It was probably funded by rightwing nutjobs, hate mongers, the healthcare industry, and Republicans and Tea Party people.

Billions in aid go to areas that backed Obama in ’08

USA Today

“There’s no politics at work when it comes to spending for the recovery,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says.  Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration’s $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, a USA TODAY analysis of government disclosure and accounting records shows. That money includes aid to repair military bases, improve public housing and help students pay for college. The reports show the 872 counties that supported Obama received about $69 per person, on average. The 2,234 that supported McCain received about $34.

Ok, so there’s a little disparity, but that was unintentional.  The President is only trying to create jobs in the private sector and since most people live in the cities, and most cities support the President, it’s only the appearance of impropriety that most of the money is going to the President’s supporters.

Federal workers make much more in wages and benefits than their counterparts in private industry.  $30,000 more!

THE STIMULUS: States get the most money so far

Retaining gov’t jobs, job one

Stimulus goes to government jobs and programs

Meanwhile, where do we stand with the recovery?

Consumer confidence falls

Mass layoffs up in January

Bank failures continue

20% underemployed

But not to worry America.  Even though government spending has never reversed a declining economy, and even though government “make work” jobs never deliver prosperity or confront unemployment, we can trust this President and this Congress to deliver hope and change, because, well, just because.

If you doubt it, you’re a racist.
